CHILDREN FOLK GROUP "ŠÁTEČEK"
The Children Folk Group 'Šáteček', (little kerchief) was founded by Mr. Oldřich Kusovský in 1885. The main interest of the Group is Central Bohemia folklore with special attention paid to Nymburk County folklore. It began in an Elementary school in Semice (a village in Nymburk County, 30 km east from Prague, Czech Republic)and the school has remained its base since.
Because the group was attracting children from the entire county, the Youth Center in Nymburk took over the patronage of the Group in 1995. The organizers and children are also offered invaluable support from The Association of Parents and Friends of The Children Folk Group 'Šáteček', who helps organize and finance its activities.
The Group is subdivided into three sections; two dancing sections with two different youth age groups, and a music section. All sections participate at collective shows in the Czech Republic and internationally. Šáteček is also a member of The Czech Folklore Association and The Folklore Union of Prague and Central Bohemia. It participates at the organization of the international festival of children folk groups 'Polabská vonička' (the poetic name of the festival means a little bunch of fragrant flowers from 'Polabí', the region on the Labe banks).
The Folk Group 'Šáteček' endeavours to contribute to preservation of folk songs, dances and traditions of our ancestors. Its central aim is that both active members and spectators develop a sophisticated relationship with the history of our national culture.
